Ranting, Raving, Crazy Craving t(-_-“t)

Oh. My. GAWD.
A teenage girl is whining about something? Say it isn’t so! Is this real life?

Yep, I’m about to start complaining about the cruel injustices of my privileged American life. Buckle up. 😛

MANGA.

I read it constantly, as I’ve said before in multiple posts. Most of what I read is Shounen(Shonen), as in, made for boys around the age of 12.  They’re just more worthwhile in my opinion, as the girl counterpart, Shoujo(Shojo), is filled with too much gush and not enough kicking.

But what bugs me about Shounen is how the girls are portrayed. More often than not, the relationships in these particular mangas are not blatant. Let’s face it, little boys don’t really start wanted to read about romance. No biggie, my writermind will serve up some fanfiction that can most definitely fill the void.

But the girls in Shounen are especially…well… annoying. They whine and complain almost constantly, usually serving to make stupid comments and act as damsels in distress. Even when they are given the ability to defend themselves, they nearly always need to be rescued by a male heroine. In shounen, the girls always care too much about romance and too much about their appearance. Honestly, if you’re about to fight some guy, the way your hair is styled shouldn’t be your first concern.

To make things even more frustrating, they are drawn completely unrealistically. Most mangakas (manga artist) even include the measurements of the main female characters, penning them as 37-21-33″ (Nami – One Piece) 37-23-36″ (Lucy, Fairy Tale) 38E-24-34″ (Orihime, Bleach).

Honestly, I don’t even think it’s possible to have that small of a waist yet gigantic boobs. I don’t think the mangakas realize how painful that would be – seriously, plenty of my friends have C’s or D’s and complain about back pain and how it hurts to run.

S0, just to sum up this rant: Shonen manga makes most females moronic, helpless, tiny and huge-breasted. I assume that’s because that would be the “ideal” female.

Well guys, (you too mangaka’s) good luck finding someone that fits that profile without having implants, back problems, and waaay out of your league(:

One Piece <3

I was sidetracked from reading my manga for a few hours by the usual draw of television and MS Word. But at around midnight, I got back into the swing of things. In fact, I’ve knocked out two volumes of One Piece so far.

It’s really getting interesting, what with secret identities surfacing and the all-powerful cliffhanger.

I only had volumes 7 and 8 checked out, and I’m still in a MangaMood, so I’ll probably end up reading the next few chapters online, at least until I get back to school and can pick up the next volumes from the library. I definitely prefer reading them on paper, but reading them from my laptop is just as good. I only resort to using my phone if I have to be mobile, since I (tragically) lack a tablet.

I like One Piece because it’s silly and childish, much less serious and complicated than Death Note. Then again, it was (along with most of the Manga  I read) written for 10 – 15 year old boys. It’s not my fault the young guy stuff is sooo much more interesting than the drivel written for my gender.

It’s about this guy who wants to be the pirate king, Monkey D. Luffy, who ate the fruit of the Gum Gum Tree, and developed the powers to stretch his body like rubber. I’m not making this up. It’s a pretty interesting read, though I’m still in the beginnings of the series (I have like 200+ chapters left until I catch up).

As with all manga, I have developed a sort of….erm….crush on one of the characters. Don’t think of me as a crazy freak, I’m not having wet dreams about these guys or anything, and I know they’re not real. It’s just – my teen girl writer mind loves to think up little stories on the spot, and when I read books or watch movies, my brain creates fanfiction on many of the characters, just because it comes naturally to me.

At this point, I’m really just hoping none of them go insane (*cough*Light Yagami*cough*)

Hmm… that’s all I really have to say about that. I think I’m going to write a manga rant, but I want to be able to file it solely under my “Rants” category so I’ll finally have something there.
